Helen Lucas Bass passed away at home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. She courageously fought a battle with cancer with immeasurable grace.

Carolyn was born February 10, 1945, at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, TX.

Carolyn grew up on Lucas Farms, in Mesquite, TX, attending Mesquite schools and graduating from the Hockaday School of Dallas in 1963. She attended Texas Tech University, in Lubbock, TX, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Psychology, in 1967. She was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, where many of her pledge sisters became life-long friends.

During her years at Texas Tech, she met John Raymond Bass of Lubbock, whom she married in June of 1968 at Perkins Chapel in Dallas. They were married 43 years, until his passing in 2011.

While in Lubbock, Carolyn and John welcomed their children, Jack and Sarah.

Carolyn worked for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, was involved in the Junior League of Lubbock, and was active in the Zeta Alumni Association. She served as the Zeta Rush Advisor, Pledge Advisor, and as Treasurer of the Zeta House Corporation.

In 1980, the Bass family moved to Dallas, where they joined Carolyn's father in the management and operation of Lucas Farms, as well as other family businesses.

Carolyn joined Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, on the preschool board, and as a Sunday School teacher.

Carolyn balanced working full-time in the family business, while fully participating in her children's lives.

She showed great courage, as she cared for her husband throughout his illness and passing. She fostered her many friendships with a remarkable loyalty and always showed a calm wisdom and a true authenticity.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, John Raymond Bass, her father, George Faithon Lucas, her brother, George Fredrick Lucas, her father-in-law, Marvin Elmer Bass, and her mother-in-law, Beverly Norwood Bass.

She is survived:

Mother: Margaret Terrell Townsend, Passed away October 8, 2016, just 10 day after her daughter Carolyn Bass passed away.

Son: John Raymond Bass, Jr. (Jack) and his wife Eloise, their sons John Raymond Bass, III, and George Lucas Bass,

Daughter: Sarah Bass Baetz and her husband Bert, their children Eloise Marie Baetz and Bertrand Oliver Baetz, IV.
