Col Comfort Ludington was born  Abt 1741 in Dutchess County, the son of Elisha Luddington and Sarah Collins of Duchess County, New York. 
He married Elizabeth Nickerson, daughter of Seth and Mary (Smith) Nickerson in 1763 in Fishkill Twp, Duchess County, New York. She is a descendant of a very well documented family in New England. She died in 1804 in Duchess County, New York.
Growing up he was a farmer. On April 161760 at the age of 19 he enlisted in the military service serving in Capt. Bogardus's Company and a captain for the militia in Dutchess County during the Revolutionary War.   He was commissioned captain on Feb 26, 1776 with Elijah Oakly first lieutenant. John Brady, second lieutenant, and Asa Berry.  He was in Fredericktown (Patterson), New York in 1790 and in Fishkill (near Ludingtonville) in 1800. After the war he and his family moved to Fishkill Township, Dutchess County, New York. It is here that he passed away. His will was probated on 12 September, 1805 in Fishkill.

Comfort Luddingtons name is not found on any of the records of any of the cemeteries in fishkill, Dutchess Co, New York. According to Antonia F Houston the Local History Librarian of Fishkill, New York. Possibly buried on family unknown plot.
