CLARKSBURG — Chester F. Ali, age 89 of Clarksburg, W.Va., departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Calabria, Italy, on Sept. 20, 1919, a son of the late Domenick Ali and Rosa Grantano Ali. His wife, Bonita McGuire Ali, whom he married on Dec. 13, 1945, preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 1989.

Surviving are a son, James F. Ali, and his wife Karen, Moundsville, W.Va.; one daughter, Pamela R. Carey and her husband Bruce, Clarksburg, W.Va.; two brothers, John A. Ali, Bridgeport, W.Va., and Don V. Ali, Bridgeport, W.Va.; one sister, Theresa Lanham, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren; Jamie Patrick Ali and his wife Kim, Kelly M. Baker and her husband Roger, Matthew R. Ali and his wife Rebecca, Ann K. Ali and Megan Carey; and three great grandchildren, Emily, Owen and Connor.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Stonewood.

Mr. Ali also was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 482, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 573 and the American Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He graduated from Washington Irving High School in the Class of 1937 and graduated from the West Virginia Business College.

Mr. Ali served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 6, 1941, to May 1946. He served in the Medical Administrative Corps and was a retired Major from the Army. He served in the North African Theater of Operations-Oran Algeria, the European Theater of Operations, Naples, Italy, and the Pacific Theater of Operations on the Island of Okinawa.

Mr. Ali served as Company Commander, personnel and executive officer of the 106th Station Hospital. After 35 years, he retired as an accountant with the U.S. Post Office.
