Betty June Gallaway, 81, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 at a local medical center. A visitation with the family will be on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Funeral services will be on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the University Church of Christ with a burial to follow in Dublin, Texas. Arrangements under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors.

Betty was born October 2, 1934 in Comanche, Texas to Lester and Lola Fortson Ripley. She was raised in Comanche, TX. Shortly after high school, Betty met Benny on a blind date. They were married August 21, 1951 in Dublin, Texas. In 1958, Benny and Betty moved to Abilene where Benny began his teaching career at Abilene Christian. She is survived by husband Benny, Abilene; son Steve Gallaway, Abilene; son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Janet Gallaway, Abilene; and daughter and son-in-law Lori and Greg Reagan, Potosi, Tx. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Dr. Lacy Gallaway Mankin, Abilene; Michael Gallaway, Chatanooga, Tn; Mason Gallaway, Chatanooga, Tn; Lindsay Reagan, Abilene; Sarah Blazier, Lubbock, Tx; and Samuel Gallaway, Abilene; and three beautiful great-grandchildren.

The family requests that those who wish to offer memorials in Betty’s honor, consider the Haitian Christian Foundation or the Christian Service Center. The family also wishes to thank Angels Home Health Care, Silver Spring Rehab, and Hendrick Hospice Care for the wonderful help of compassionate caregivers.
