Member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon Leroy Francis Chilcote, 90, of 17798 Deer Hill Lane, Mapleton, Cass Township, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Huntingdon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided since May 2013.

Born September 29, 1923, in Rockhill, he was the son of the late Samuel and Anastasia (Mack) Chilcote. He was united in marriage to the former Marceline Kauffman April 9, 1951, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, by the Rev. Monsignor Francis Ackerson. His wife survives at their Mapleton residence.

Mr. Chilcote is survived by three children, Catherine Chilcote of Newtown and Michael Chilcote and Samuel Chilcote and wife, Peggy, all of Mapleton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia Chilcote of Todd.

He is also survived by a brother, Robert Chilcote of Reading.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Chilcote Jr., July 22, 2010.

Mr. Chilcote was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon.

He honorably served with the 8th United States Army Air Force from the time of his enlistment Aug. 5, 1943, in Altoona, until his discharge as a Tech 5 March 21, 1946, at the Separation Center at Fort Dix, N.J. Mr. Chilcote was awarded the European Asian Middle East Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service during World War II in Central Europe. He completed the Army Air Force radio operator and mechanic course while in the military.

Mr. Chilcote attended Orbisonia High School.

He retired from employment in 1986. He worked for many years as a truck driver and, at the time of his retirement, was employed in the lab of the former Pennsylvania Sand Glass

Co. In his early working career, Mr. Chilcote was a bread delivery man for the former Hom-Taste Baking Co., Mount Union.
Mr. Chilcote was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, and had lived at his Cass Township residence since 1982. He loved watching Pittsburgh Steelers football and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games. Mr. Chilcote also loved hunting.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Father David Arseneault officiating. Committal will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Park. Full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Joint Color and Honor Guard.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing and visitation from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the church Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Chilcote may be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 524 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
