Jim Shrader was a torpedoman The USS Seadragon. The USS Seadragon made its first transit of the Northwest Passage and became the fourth ship to reach the North Pole in August of 1961. On August 2, 1962, the Seadragon accomplished another "first" by meeting the submarine Skate under the North Pole.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of James William Shrader. He passed away peacefully at his home in North Hollywood, CA.

Born and raised in Burbank, Jim graduated from John Burroughs High School. He served his country for over 26 years in the Navy, retiring in 1993. He tended bar at Michaels Pub, The Steak Joynt, The Money Tree and JB's among others in the valley.

Jim enjoyed golfing and travel with his many friends. He achieved many tournament championships and won many bets. He loved people and was truly a gentleman and friend to all, with never a bad word for anyone. No amount of words can explain the sorrow and loss for all of us. Jimmy will live in our hearts forever. God took him back home.

James William Shrader is survived by his nephew Bradford Shrader, his aunt and uncle Josephine and William Bisset and his cousins Janet Lammon and Kristine Shadle.

Jimmy requested friends and family join in a celebration of his life, bringing pictures and stories for all to share. This will be held Friday, January 8, 2010 at 10 am at 11506 Oxnard St. in North Hollywood.

A memorial will be held at Michael's Bar.

Born Aug. 31, 1940, Jimmy died peacefully at his home in North Hollywood on Dec. 6, 2009.
