Jordan Carpenter was born about 1855 in Smith County, Tennessee, the son of Henry Carpenter.

He was married on January 5, 1880 in Smith County to Alice Crutchfield (1860–1928), the daughter of Charles Crutchfield (1822–1906) and Ann (Bartee) Crutchfield (1836–1906). {According to the 1910 census he was listed as a widower. Then in the 1920 census he was listed as divorced.}

A farmer living at 1201 Straightway Avenue, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, Jordan was 83 years old and a widower when he died at home on December 17, 1938 of a combination of flu and pneumonia.

Survivors included his son Bernice Carpenter in Indianapolis, Indiana, nieces Miss Tennie Grizzard, Miss Katie Bates and Miss Ida Bowman, nephews Johnnie Carpenter, Ford Carpenter and Herman Carpenter and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held on December 21st at Rock City Baptist Church, and burial was in Benevolent Cemetery on Brick Church Pike {although his obituary didn't specifically name the cemetery}.
