Graveside services for Mary Jo Tanner 82, Athens have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens with a Memorial service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Fellowship Church with Dr. Tony Romans officiating.
Mrs. Tanner passed away Tuesday morning in Athens.
She was born February 5, 1934 in Athens to the late Oscar Lee and Lucille Boone Aaron. Mary Jo grew up with her 4 sisters working the cotton fields and pea fields of Henderson County. She attended Pine Grove School, Athens High School and Henderson County Junior College. She married John H. Tanner, Jr. June 18, 1955 in Athens at Virginia Hills Baptist Church. She retired from Henderson County Memorial Hospital and East Texas Medical Center Athens after 35 years of service, serving several different rolls including Assistant Administrator, Administrator and CFO. She loved to work outside and spent many hours in the garden with John and was a member of Faith Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son; Lee Aaron Tanner, sisters; Myrtle Mc New and Jackie Bea Clements, son-in-law; Joe McGuffy.
Survivors include her husband John H. Tanner, Jr., Athens, daughter; Trish McGuffy and husband Ron Adcock, Athens, son; Steve Tanner and wife Katie, Rockwall, daughter-in-law; Tina Tanner, Eustace, grandchildren; John Coleman McGuffy, Molly McGuffy and Trace McGuffy all of Athens, Casey Tanner and wife Melanie, Kindle Tanner both of Eustace, Andy Tanner and wife Kristine, Forney, Matthew Tanner, Rockwall and David Tanner, great grandchildren; Colton Nix, Hunter McGuffy both of Athens, Baylee Tanner, Kenadee Tanner, Case Tanner all of Eustace, James Tanner and Kate Tanner, Forney, sisters; Mary Ann Thomas and husband Larry, Athens, Ruth Faulkenbury, Oregon, sister-in-law; Sarah Baggett, Athens, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are John McGuffy, Andy Tanner, Matthew Tanner, David Tanner, Casey Tanner and Keith Baggett.
