Edythe Anita Blauvelt is descended from one of the old Dutch families of New Amsterdam, and married into another one. She was born on June 6, 1890, according to all sources (not on June 8 as shown on the grave marker) and raised in Brooklyn, New York; she was active in the Olivet Presbyterian Church on Bergen Street with many of her relatives. She married Arthur Story Van Houten in that church. They moved to Iriquois Falls, Ontario, Canada, where he worked as an accountant for the Calatibi Power and Paper Company, and where their son Elbert was born. After 12 years in Canada, they returned to the New York area, settling in Passaic, New Jersey. They are buried together in Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton.
