Edna Marie Banks, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2006.

The second of six children, Edna was born June 8, 1915 to Lossen Allen Watkins and Ada Pearl Goodall Watkins in Pear Valley, McCulloch County, Texas. She lived in Pear Valley until 1932. The family moved to Henderson, near Eola, Texas. She graduated from Eola High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1933. Edna attended Howard Payne College in Brownwood and obtained her degree. On December 26, 1937, she married Marshall T. Banks. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union: Dick, Joe, Sam and Mary.

Edna worked as a nurse at Brady Hospital for 10 years. She left the hospital to return to the school room. She taught at Eola, Brady and Midland for 27 years. Edna joined the Methodist Church when she was 11 years old. She attended St. Paul United Methodist Church in Midland, and was active in some of its activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, and three brothers.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, Richard and wife, Bettye, of Robert Lee, TX; Joe and wife, Imogene, of Midland, TX; Sam and wife, Linda, of San Marcos, TX; and Mary K. Cooper of Midland, TX; sister, Corine Bromley of Midland, TX; brother, Raymond Watkins of San Angelo, TX; and two sisters-in-law, Dot Watkins of San Angelo, TX; and Trudia Watkins of Hamilton, TX; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Edna also leaves behind two very dear friends, Lea Cain and Mary Bryant.

The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Friday, August 18, 2006 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady, Texas. Pallbearers will be Marshall Banks, James Banks, Lee Banks, Jonathon Cooper, Justin Cooper and Christopher Cooper. Honorary pallbearers are Rachelle Banks, Carla Rowland, Jessica Banks and Crystal Cooper.
