Mr. Criswell was born in Bartow County on April 30,1923 to the late Robert Ernest Criswell and Julia McPherson Criswell. He was a veteran of the army,serving in the 60th Division during World War 2. Mr. Criswell lived in the Rome and Floyd County area for several years before moving to Marietta. Prior to retirement in 1988, he was associated with the City of Marietta as a foreman in traffic light maintenance for twenty-eight years. Mr. Criswell was of the Baptist faith and attended church when able. He enjoyed "cutting up" with his family, fishing, bowling, treasure hunting, playing cards, and yatzee. Mr. Criswell also loved going to the Waffle House and drink coffee. He was preceded in death by his brother, Percy J. Criswell and his sister, Pauline Lought.
Mr. Criswell is survived by a son, James H. Criswell, Jr. of Trion, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Tessa Criswell O'Hara and Aaron O'Hara of Alvaton, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday,March 25, 2006, at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home in Rome. Rev. Bill Adams officiated, and interment was in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Acworth, Georgia.
