A farmer, his wife was Rebecca Jane Shfflett. Moses served with Company I of the 10th Virginia Volunteer Infantry, the Riverton Invincibles. He served with his brothers Elias, who was killed in action by Union Cavalry near his home on 30 October 1862 and Albert, who was also killed at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House on 10 May 1864. Brother Emanuel hired as teamster for the 10th Virginia.
