Dick graduated from Hutchinson High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College, and graduated from The Kansas School of Barbering in Wichita in 1958. He owned Dick’s Barbershop for over 50 years, retiring in 2013. Dick loved traveling, watching the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas University Jayhawks, volunteering at Trinity Catholic High School, and his dogs, Chloe and Zippy. He was a member of Church of the Holy Cross and Knights of Columbus #612 and 4th Degree Council, Fr. David Cushing #2964.
On Oct. 18, 1975, he married Frances McCart in Hutchinson. They shared 40 years of marriage. She survives. Other survivors are: sons, Daniel Smith and wife Sarah of Hutchinson, Chris Bradford and wife Sophia of Centennial, Colo.; daughters, Christine Neighbors and husband Jeff and De Anna Blew and husband Jerry, all of Hutchinson, Shelley Hart and husband Kevin of Wichita; sister, Judith Kehl of Maple Valley, Wash.; brother, Michael Smith and wife Gilda of Nickerson; aunt, Ethel Smith of Fredonia; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Parish rosary will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. with Fathers Roger S. Lumbre and Ned J. Blick officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or Trinity Catholic Jr./Sr. High School, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
