The Reverend Emidio Oreste Gregori, 93, was called to eternal rest on Tuesday April 12, 2016. Father Gregori was born in Collagna, Italy on May 19, 1922 to the late Pietro and Christina Pulsoni Gregori.

Emidio obtained his AS degree in Science from Jr. College of Connecticut in Bridgeport in 1943, AB in Science from Syracuse University 1947, BA in Philosophy St. Mary's Junior College in 1953 and Doctor of Ministry from Jesuit School of Theology at Berkley 1981.

He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. After being wounded in action and spending fifteen months in various hospitals, gradually the thought came to him to become a priest and not to follow his original plan of becoming a doctor. While on a family trip to Italy, he had the occasion to speak with St. Padre Pio, who gave him a confirmation that he would become a priest. He was rejected by several dioceses, since at that time older men were not ordained. The Diocese of Bridgeport was formed and Bishop Curtis accepted him. He was ordained on May 3, 1958 by Bishop Curtis after completion of studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. Father served at St. Roch Church in Greenwich, 1958 to 1964, St. Mary's Stamford, 1964 to 1966, St. Raphael in Bridgeport 1966 to 1975, St. James in Stratford until his retirement in 1997.

He is survived by his brother, Oreste Gregory and his wife Joanne of Redding, two nephews, Peter Gregory and his wife Carla and their children Marisa and Anne of Redding, William Gregory and his wife Mary and their children Matthew and Mia of Danbury, caregiver and dear friend Barbara Moroson of Stratford and Santiago and wife Marie Aguirre also of Stratford.

Father's life and memory will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Road, Stratford, officiated by Bishop Frank J. Caggiano of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
