Delbert served during World War II with the Third Signal Corp of the Third Army under General Patch. His tour of duty included 31 months overseas. He was in such places as North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Austria and Germany. WHile in Germany, his outfit helped liberate one of the German prisoner of war camps. He was discharged on June 21, 1945.
During his military service, he received a Purple Heart for a head injury he suffered. Doctors inserted a metal plate in his head. He died in a car accident when the metal plate went through his brain. His funeral was held in the West Side Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas on May 30, 1950. Interment followed with full Military Service provided by the VFW Post 2479.
He had no children.
