BUDD, James Reverend James A. (Jimmy) Budd, The Reverend James A. (Jimmy) Budd, 91, of Union Hill Community, Canton, GA passed away May 14, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born April 28, 1922 in Mobile, AL the youngest of seven children.
Rev. Budd was the son of the late John W. Budd and Susie C. Budd. He served as a United Methodist minister in the North Georgia Conference for over 60 years. Rev. Budd served in the US Navy during WWII in the Seabees, serving Guadalcanal and other battles in the Pacific Campaign. After the war he completed his undergraduate degree from Duke University and went on to receive his Masters of Divinity from Yale University. After graduation he joined the North GA conference and was appointed to organize and build St. Mark United Methodist in Augusta. He went on to serve a number of churches in and around the metro Atlanta area including Sardis Methodist, St. John United Methodist, First United Methodist Church of Marietta, North Springs United Methodist, and Union Hill United Methodist.
Jimmy Budd will be remembered as an avid fisherman who loved nothing better than to share this experience with everyone he met. Through his love of fishing and the hundreds of trips he organized, lifelong friendships were made and the love of Christ was spread. He used these opportunities to bring people together and draw them into the body of Christ. He was truly a "fisher of men."
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Bobbye Jean Budd, the mother of his three children and his grandson, Adam James Budd. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marlene Ledford Budd of Union Hill, a son James A. Budd, Jr. of Robbinsville, NC, daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Wauer of Whitefish, MT, and Mary Sue and Tony Harbin of Dalton; Seven grandchildren, two great grandsons, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 11 am at North Springs United Methodist, Roswell. Pastor Brad Anderson and special nephew, Warren C. Budd will officiate. Burial will be at 1:00 pm Union Hill Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Northside Chapel, Crabapple Rd. Roswell.
