Weston Spies Gales was the son of Weston Raleigh Gales and his 2nd wife, Mary Spies. He married Harriet Ogden Moore on April 28, 1869 in New York City, she died in 1872 They were the parents of one son, Joseph Gales, who was raised by Weston's brother, also named Joseph Gales.
