He married Janie Arabelle SMITH (his 2nd cousin) on November 24, 1904 in Harrison County, Texas. They had six children:
* Pollard C. SMITH died at 2 months of age.
* Moses Enos SMITH died at age 20.

Janie Arabelle SMITH, his wife, passed away Dec. 31, 1936, according to what I have been told. I have not found any records yet to confirm. I have also been told it might have been 1938.

Joseph Robert SMITH passed away on September 8, 1944 in Rural, Caddo, Louisiana. His length of stay there was 3 mo. The cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage & arterial hypertension. His occupation was listed as Stationary Fireman. And his usual residence was listed as Jefferson, Tex, Ware & Driskell Saw Mill. The informant was W. M. SMITH (his brother William Moses SMITH).

*****
JOSEPH ROBERT SMITH HAD FOUR SIBLINGS:

* Thomas Jeremiah SMITH, who married first Josephine "Josie" KATENKAMP and had 4 children, and after Josie’s death, married Novie Eunice LAWRENCE and had 4 more children. Thomas lived in Marshall, Texas and his parents, John & Lidia "Liddie", lived with him until their death. Thomas worked for the Texas & Pacific Railroad.

* William Moses SMITH, who first married Lavada Ann Elizabeth SANDERS and had at least 3 children. ~~~ After Lavada passed away, William married Maudie Clara ALEXANDER (the sister of his brother-in-law William Lee ALEXANDER), who I believe was widowed from her first husband, Frank B. SMITH (possibly Benjamin Franklin Smith) who was, I believe, a son of William E. & Elvan Minerva (WALKER) SMITH. Maudie & Frank had at least 7 children (possibly 9). ~~~ William Moses and Maudie lived in Shreveport, Louisiana. They had at least 1 child together. William worked for the Kansas City - Southern Railway.

* Barney Bass SMITH, who married Pearl Lee PETTY and lived in Harleton, Texas. They had at least 7 children. After being a Farmer for many years, Barney worked for the Department of Streets & Sanitation.

* Emma Lee “Emmer” SMITH, who married William Lee ALEXANDER (a brother of William Moses’s second wife Maudie) and lived in Marshall, Texas. They had at least 3 children. Both Emmer and her husband William died young, and left orphans. Emmer died in 1931 at the age of 30 from pellagra, and William died in 1936 at the age of 40, from an accident while working for the Texas & Pacific Railroad.

Gravesite Details

Death certificate says Liberty cemetery in Marion Co., TX. This is the closest Liberty I could find, and it has relatives buried there. He might be in an unmarked grave.
