Principal of the Female Grammar School in the 4th district.
Excerpt from Margaret's obituary, Daily National Republican (Washington, D.C.) Dec. 6, 1869:
More than all, Mrs. Amidon occupied a sphere of public usefulness such as few women or even men attain. For years she had been the leader in female education in our public schools, until her pupils have come to fill a large proportion of the positions as teachers in the primary schools. Besides that, from the time she united with the E-street Baptist church she has had her leading place in the Sabbath school as teacher of the infant class. The business of teaching was the absorbing idea of her life; she carried the spirit of the family and of the Church of Christ with it, and what an example she has left of fidelity and efficiency in it!
