Sara E. Reed was born 31 Aug 1853 in Sevier Co., TN. the daughter of Mitchell and Louisa Jane (Kerr) Reed. Her father Mitchell Reed was born about 1820 in Sevier Co., TN and her mother Louisa Jane Kerr was born about, 1826 also in Sevier Co., TN. She was the third child out of seven.
Her brothers were:
Marcus Armstrong born 2 Feb 1849 and married Mary Caldwell
Albert P. born 1859 and married Alice Paugle
John Reed born 1865
Her sisters were:
Elizabeth born 1851 and married Melvin Hayes
Analiza born 1855 who married Dan Fisher
Nancy Reed born 1862 who married William Kerr (who was her mother's nephew).
Sara married Francis Madison Adams and she was his second wife. He had two children from his first marriage, they were Norman and Savannah. Francis Madison was the son of Clayton Reed Adams and Mary Emaline (Rich) Adams.
Francis and Sara's children were:
Marcus A. who was born 1877 in Whitfield Co. GA
Charles Dyer who was born 1879 also Whitfield Co. GA Jessie 'Tobe' who was born 9 Aug 1881 in Whitfield Co., GA
Tobe's family tells the story of Tobe farming a man's land and he got into an argument concerning the land. The next morning while Tobe and his family were eating breakfast, the man Henry Adams (no relation) came to his front gate and called to Tobe. When Tobe opened the door the man shot and killed him. He fell backwards into the doorway and had to lie there until the authorities came late that afternoon. Henry Adams also shot at Francis Adams who was staying with Tobe and his family at that time, but missed. Henry Adams was tried, convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
William Francis who was born 6 Oct 1883 in Whitfield Co., GA. He was also the Constable for Precinct #6 and was running for re-election in the Democratic Primary July 24, 1926
John Adams born 15 Oct 1885 also Whitfield Co., GA and Crayton Haskin 'Hack' Adams born 29 Oct, 1887 in Whitfield Co., GA.
Crayton was drafted into the army of WWI and was ready to board the train in Honey Grove, TX when everyone started shouting 'The war is over'. The train whistle started blowing and the bells began to ring. There was a lot, of commotion and celebrating and needless to say Hack did not have to go to war.
By the 1900 census the family had relocated to Grayson Co., TX and stayed in the Fannin and Lamar County areas until Sara died in 1910 in Petty where she was buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Francis Madison died in Bonham, Fannin Co., TX and is buried in Fannin Co., TX.
The family were farmers by trade.
