Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Jacob was born Jan. 12, 1908, in a sod house near Antelope, to Henry and Katherina (Sayler) Diede. The family moved to a farm closer to the Custer Lookout where Jake was raised and educated.
He married Pauline Neher Nov. 24, 1932, at the German Congregational Church in Hebron. They farmed for 12 years before moving into Hebron in 1945. Jake drove many cattle in his stock trucking business, and he also worked in the sales ring at Western Livestock in Dickinson for 35 years.
After his retirement he remained in Hebron where he could be found early in the morning making coffee and waiting to play pinocle with the guys. Jake was an avid rodeo fan and attended many rodeos. He entered Marian Manor Nursing Home in April 1996 and had resided there since.
He was a member of the Hebron City Council where he served four terms, Farmers Union, Senior Citizens and St. John United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; one son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Dorinda, Bowman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlayne and Myron Buchli, Rapid City, S.D., and Audrey and James Williamson, Denver; eight grandchildren, Jon, Mark, Jim and Steven Buchli, Kent and Kevin Williamson, and Taya and Quinn Diede; three great-grandchildren, Laura, Alex and Alissa Buchli; and one sister, Frieda Terras, Hebron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Adolph.
The family prefers memorials to St. John's Youth Fund.
