A birth record was found for David Henry Abbott: Year of Registration: 1891; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: Orsett; County: Essex; Volume: 4a; Page: 443. (Parents: David Abbott and Mary (Cattermole) Redfearn married Guisboro, York, England, in 1881.)


In 1901, David Abbott, 10, arrived in Portland, Maine, USA, along with a group of 260 children from London to Toronto (193), Peterborough, Ontario (6) and to Russell, Manitoba (60), Canada. His sister, Emily, was sent to Canada in 1903 by Barnardos, and sister, Mary, was sent to Canada in 1902 by Barnardos. They were all sent from Tottenham, London, England. Mother Mary was working around Bures just before the children were sent over.


On 26 August 1911, David H Abbott, 21, Painter, son of Robert Abbott and Jane Haigh, married Rosina Brett, 24, daughter of Henry Wm Brett and Jane Gardner in Toronto, York, Ontario


David may have also worked on the farm of a Mr. H. A. Jordan.


His mother Mary came to the USA in 1905. She was said to be in New York in 1906. A Mary Abbott is found in 1910 as housekeeper to Whitfield Norman and his three sons, residing at Sussex Road, Frankford, Sussex, New Jersey.


On 11th August 1949, David Abbott, 60 and wife Rosina, 63, they gave their intended address as 10 Highfield Crescent, Leeds, Yorkshire, arrived in England, he gave his occupation as a decorator. They did not intend to stay in England permanently.


They departed for Canada on 15 September 1949 on SS Franconia, he again stated that he was a decorator.
