Wiley married Almeda Francis Morris in Cherokee County, Texas on 20 Jan 1859. They were included in the 1860 census without issue.
On Feb 24, 1862, Wiley enlisted at Harrison City, Texas. His unit was "Clough & Hill Avengers" Company, Col Clark's 14Th Texas Infantry Regiment, 6TH Brigade, CSA
On Oct 30, 1863, he and numerous others from the 14Th Texas Infantry were taken prisoner at Little Rock, Arkansas. Wiley was transferred to Camp Morton Federal Prison Camp in Marion County, Indiana on 10 Sep 1863. He died there on 1 April 1864. Note: 1,616 CSA prisoners died while confined at Camp Morton.
Pvt. Wiley J. Hendon and his comrades were originally buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, but were re-interred at Crown Hill Cemetery 1928-1931.
Nothing is known of his widow or possible children.
