Son of Thomas and Mary (Noyes) Adams.

At the time of his enlistment in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, in 1861, Edwin gave his occupation as miller.

Edwin and Leander J. Owen, brothers-in-law, served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.

On 12 Jul 1861 he mustered into service with Company F, of the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and n 21 Oct 1861 he was wounded at The Battle of Ball's Bluff, Leesburg, Virginia.

On 8 May 1864 Edwin L. Adams married Ellen Ryan, daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Ryan, at Worcester, Massachusetts, in a first marriage for both.

On 27 Jul 1864 Edwin ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts by transfer to the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. On 17 Mar 1865 he transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps until he ended his service by discharge for disability on 30 Mar 1865.

Edwin L. Adams died on 10 Apr 1872 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, of small pox.

On 19 Jun 1873 Edwin's widow, Eleanor R. Adams remarried to Dennis P. Sullivan at Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in a first marriage for him and the second for her.
