Naomi Buckelew Archie born and raised in Lake County, in rural northwest Tennessee, passed away peacefully in Columbia, SC on May 10, 2015 after a short hospital stay resulting from a heart attack.

As a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nona, as many called her, never met a stranger and even to the end was making people smile. Having been a member of First Baptist Church of Tiptonville, TN, for 67 years and Phillippy Baptist Church since childhood, she was always very active in all facets of the church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, worked with Gs and RAs and served in all capacities for the women’s missionary union. She often times visited and sang at nursing homes or just allowed others to talk and she always promoted her love of God and family. She also loved outdoors and working in the yard, taking care of her pool and being a core figure in her family.

Naomi is survived by three sons, Terry (Sandra) Petty of Tiptonville, TN, Butch Archie of Samburg, TN and Chuck Archie of Columbia, SC. She has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by three siblings, Frank (Sara) Buckelew of Jonesboro, AR, Bessie Sanders of Fulton, KY and Richard (Katie) Buckelew of Clinton, KY. She was especially close to Geneva Jones, who helped care for Naomi the last three years of her life.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Pete Petty, Charles Archie and Bill Hilliard, all of Tiptonville; her parents, Grover Cleveland and Bess Buckelew; and five siblings, Jimmy Buckelew, Grover Buckelew, Evelyn “Tootsie” Holifield, Linda Shumate, and Charlie Buckelew.

Visitation in Columbia, SC will take place at Reformation Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 6-8 PM with a noon memorial service Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in the church sanctuary.

Visitation in Tiptonville TN will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 6-9 at First Baptist Church with a funeral service on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10 AM at the church and graveside services immediately following at Haynes Memorial Gardens.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Tiptonville; the Alzheimer’s Association; or to a charity of your choice.
