Mrs. Burnett, born May 13, 1936, in McLeansboro, was the oldest daughter of Paul and Hallie (Allen) French. She was a 1954 graduate of McLeansboro Township High School and later attended Southern Illinois University.
In 1956, she married her lifelong love, Arthur "Gene" Burnett, at Ten Mile Baptist Church in McLeansboro. They then began their family of five in Harvey. The family later moved to the Riverside, Calif., area in 1972. Mrs. Burnett was greatly loved by her family and viewed as a true matriarch.
Her lifelong passion was for flowers. She was a highly-esteemed floral designer for 35 years and her home garden included many exotic and desert plants.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by her mother, Hallie (Allen) French of McLeansboro; her husband, Arthur "Gene" Burnett of Moreno Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Kathy (John Kenneth) Cowlishaw of North Bend, Wash.; two sons, Philip Burnett of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Maurice (Blake) Burnett of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; five granddaughters, Shannon (Joshua) Kossow of Easton, Wash., Kelly Cowlishaw of Glendale, Ariz., Teddi Burnett of Carbondale, Cierra Burnett of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Tawni Burnett of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; two grandsons, Jeramie Cowlishaw of North Bend, Wash., and Trevor Burnett of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; four great-granddaughters, Jessica Farchette, Kristen Kossow and Camren Kossow, all of Easton, Wash., and Audrie Cowlishaw of North Bend, Wash.; and siblings Dean (Cathleen) French of McLeansboro, Joseph (Patricia) French of Kirkwood, Mo., Judith (Howard) Ritchey of McLeansboro and Paul "Keith" (Donna) French of Springfield, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul French. Once again, she is Daddy's little girl.
Visitation services were held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday June 16 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday June 17 at Ten Mile Baptist Church west of McLeansboro. The Revs. John Smith and Robert Sefried officiated, with burial following at Ten Mile Cemetery
