Janet L. Mitchell, 84, Cherry Valley, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, in her home following a prolonged illness. She was born October 28, 1930, in McAllen, Texas; the daughter of Robert and Ernestine (Allen) Savage. Janet married Richard A. "Dick" Mitchell in McAllen, Texas on August 8, 1950. He passed away in Rockford on January 28, 2011. Janet worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in the Rockford area. She was a proud Texan and enjoyed playing bridge, reading, working crossword puzzles, and volunteered as an instructor in the 4H Club.

Survived by her daughter, Diane (Eric) Brewner of Colorado Springs, CO, her son, Brad Mitchell of Cherry Valley and her daughter, Kelly (Randy) Janssen of Cherry Valley; her daughter-in-law, Izzie Spotz; her grandchildren, Clayton Mitchell, Bailey (Jonathan) Richardson, Kenny Spotz, Sean (Hettie) Brewner, Hillary (Ryan) Nothhaft, Courtney Brewner and Kyle Brewner, John Mitchell, Taryn (Jeff) Fee, Derek (Charlene) Crooks, Kelsey Crooks, Derek Janssen and Brad (Claudia) Janssen; her great-grandchildren, Renee, Darby, Fletcher, Ryan, Jonathan, Audrey, Hunter, Andrew, Sawyer, Hailey, Natalie, and Jacob; 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Predeceased by her husband, Dick, her son, Dirk, and 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

A time of sharing will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 1, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.

Burial in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 500 S. Rockford Av, Rockford, 61104, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
