He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Eagles Lodge and enjoyed going to antique tractor shows and fishing.
Born in Chicago, December 9, 1937, Mr. Schmeltz was the son of Raymond P. and Vivian Rowe Schmeltz Sr.
Survivors include his daughters, Jerri Elkins of Madison and Carolee (Jimmy) Harless of Columbus; brothers, Richard (Ginny) Schmeltz of Osgood, William (Karen) Schmeltz of Columbus, Stewart Schmeltz of Osgood, Mark Schmeltz of Osgood and Steven (Rhonda) Schmeltz of Greensburg; sisters, Priscilla (Roger) Eadler of Osgood, Sharol Cox of Pensacola, Florida, and Carol (Danny) Iceberg of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Matthew Wilkerson, Benjamin Elkins and Ruby Elkins; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janet Combs; and his wife, Janet Dunn Schmeltz.
