Gwen Fleming
June 15, 1919 - March 25, 2015

Gwen Fleming who lived for 60 years in Snyder, TX passed away in Lubbock, TX on March 25, 2015. She was 95 years old.

Gwen was born in Millsap, TX in 1919 to William and Will Ann Young Asher. She lived in the Millsap area through the first grade, and then the family moved to south Texas. Except for a quick two year return to Millsap, she lived in south Texas. High schools years she spent at boarding schools in the Laredo area. She happily recalled standing on the balcony of the Laredo school with her classmates and being serenaded by a mariachi band, and sometimes hearing the bugle sound revelry at nearby Ft. McIntosh located on the Rio Grande River. The family moved to Monument, NM her senior year, and she was a member of the Hobbs, NM 1937 graduating class.

Approximately one year after graduation, she met her future husband, Virgel Fleming, on a blind date. They were married in January 1940. Sons Jerry Fleming and Ronald Fleming were born in 1941 and 1944. The family lived in Long Beach, CA during the war where Virgel built war ships for the Pacific campaign. As soon as the war ended, back to Monument where they lived until 1952 when the family moved to Snyder, TX.

Gwen worked for 20+ years at Texas Electric until retiring. She enjoyed traveling in the RV trailer to NM mountains. After Virgel passed away in 2000, she continued RVing. She purchased a small motor home and drove by herself until she was 90.

Gwen is survived by her two sons, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two nephews.

Her funeral will be held at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Saturday March 28, 2015. A short good by will be said prior to her burial next to her husband. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
