Lewis Sevier Angel was born on Sept. 16, 1834 in Whitley Co., Kentucky. He was the son of James Angel Sr. (abt 1806-bet 1860/70) and Sarah "Sary/Sallie" King (abt 1813-bet 1870/80). Both are buried in the Angel Family Cemetery (aka Angel-Wright Cemetery) near Ketchen, Scott Co., TN with unmarked or unreadable field stones for grave markers. The cemetery has over 160 such burial markers.

Lewis' father, James, was born in Campbell Co., TN. He was the son of Archibald Andrew "Arch" Angel (1775-1847) and Nancy Ann Trammell (1782-1829). Lewis' paternal grandfather, Arch, was born in the British Province of North Carolina. His paternal grandmother was born in Orange Co., North Carolina. Both died in Campbell Co., TN where they are buried in the Angel Family Cemetery.

Lewis' mother, Sarah, was born in Campbell Co., Tennessee. Her parents are often mistakenly shown as Thomas Murray King (1790-1880)and Mary Rebecca "Polly" Cox (1800-1881). Actually, her parents were William King (1785-bet 1841/50) and Elizabeth MNU (1789-bet 1841/50). William was an older brother to Thomas Murray "Tom" King. Consequently, he was Sarah's uncle, not her father.

On Mar. 16, 1854, Lewis married Elizabeth "Betty" Smith (1838-1932) in Whitley Co., KY. She was the daughter of James C. Smith (1805-1882) and Nancy W. Meadors (1897-1882). Lewis and Betty were married for 54 years and had 14 known children.

Lewis died on Apr. 17, 1908 in Whitley Co., KY at the age of 73. He is thought to be buried in the Zion Hill Cemetery in Whitley Co., KY. His wife, Betty, died on May 16, 1932, also in Whitley Co., at the age of 93. She too, is thought to be buried in the Zion Hill Cemetery.
