Brigadier General John J Gorman graduated from the United States Military Academy West Point in January, 1943. Upon graduation, he received his commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. During the early part of his career, General Gorman was a B-17 aircraft pilot and instructor pilot in bomber groups in Washington and Florida. From March 1944 until September 1945 he served in Italy with the 483rd Bomb Group as a B-17 pilot and squadron commander. He flew bomber missions against a number of significant targets in the European Theater of Operations. General Gorman's distinguished 29 year United States Air Force career culminated as Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence for Admiral McCain in 1972.
