Family lore states Bucke was a family name
(tradition to pass down)and that she was of the
Virginia first family of Rev. Richard Bucke, who
was the Chaplain of the Va. Assembly in 1619.

Children:
Drury Dacus (1746)
Mary (Dacus) Adkins (1748)
Nathaniel Dacus (1749)
John W. Dacus Jr. (1750)
William T. Dacus (1759)
Archibald Dacus (1769)
Alexander James Dacus (1770)
Washington Dacus (1785)

Additional information also based on letter from Avery Dacus, a descendant, states that family lore says we descend from a William Dacus who landed either in Maryland or Virginia in 1680. John and Mara were living near Williamsburg when Nathaniel was born and soon thereafter moved to Lunenburg Co., Va. In about 1800, six of the family moved on to Greenville Co., S.C. near the towns of Enoree, Simpsonville, Forkshoals, Piedmont and Williamston. Several of the family members are buried in the private Dacus Cemetery near Dacus Shoals.
