David Paul Calder
(March 25, 1950 - February 7, 2015)

David Calder, 64, of Wortham, passed away on February 7, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dan Carroll officiated. Interment followed at Richland Cemetery. David spent 25 plus years working in the Maintenance and HVAC industry in Dallas. Then after moving to the Corsicana area, he worked for a local retail store where he became a one man show working and helping to train for every position in the store.

David rarely met a stranger and while he might be described by some as a quiet man…he was also never at a loss for words. It was always a memorable experience to dine with him as he loved to tease the crowd around him…male or female…he didn’t discriminate and it was a guarantee that everyone was going to walk away with an aching tummy from laughing so hard. Even if you didn’t find his humor as funny as he did, you would still walk away laughing at his chuckle, from his own jokes…he was easily entertained and there was never a dull moment with him around.

Humor was a big part of David’s life…and many of us are the recipient or at the very least, a witness to some of his shenanigans. Pranks were his favorite and he was sure to include everyone…so if you didn’t see it, he made sure you heard about it. His wit and cantankerous spirit keep everyone on their toes and it was always good to sleep with one eye open, because you never knew who was next on his list to prank. He loved to fish, so if you were one of his fishing buddies, It would be almost impossible to run out of stories to share while you were all out enjoying nature at its finest.

We will always remember his “innocent” smile and that he was destined to be the class clown but we can’t leave out his kind and compassionate side as well. If you ever needed anything David would help you in any way that he could and you better bet he was going to be on time. He was a kind man and a very patient man and while he still had a bit of a stubborn, strong willed side to him you could not ask for a better, son, father, uncle or friend. We will miss his free spirit and that he was a man of his word. If he wanted something, you can guarantee a speeding freight train wouldn’t have stopped him.

David had a long struggle with COPD/emphysema and this last year was a grueling battle with is diagnosis of throat cancer. But no matter the obstacle he was eager to go to the doctor day in and day out, in hopes that modern medicine was going to relieve him of the cancer burden. But doctor or no doctor he was convinced the best medicine was a little peace and quiet at his home and land tucked out in the middle of nowhere…It was God’s country to him and it could turn any bad day at the doctors, into a perfect day once he got to walk back thru that threshold. Even the love hate relationship he had with his cat was a good day, just as long as he got to lean back in his favorite recliner.

David has family that loves him more than words could ever express…his 2 sons, his step daughters and most of all his amazing, kind, caring, loving and Godly mother. But he has a group of friends and neighbors that could not hold a candle to most. He spoke of them daily to all the family and as the family was introduced to all of his friend’s our worries of him being out in the middle of nowhere gave them all sense of peace and just like him they are kind, witty, helpful, caring and patient. David had his strong willed moments but with friends like these the camaraderie between them all could never be measured on a scale. David was blessed to have them in his life and David’s family could say thank you for the next 100 years and still feel like there are more thank you’s to be given
