Hubert L. Bender, 86, of Fort Smith died Jan. 11, 2015, in Fort Smith. He was born April 1, 1928, in Harrison County, Texas, to Jodie Griffin and Kathryn Fleming Bender. He was retired from the Air Force after serving 22 years and most recently retired from the Texas Employment Commission as an auditor. He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie of Fort Smith; three daughters, Kathryn Bender Worthington and husband James of Fort Smith, Mary Bender Furman and husband John of Anaheim, Calif., and Susan Bender Duke and husband Terry of Monroe, La.; one son, William Clark Bender and wife Elizabeth of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Janelle Reed of Los Lunas, N.M.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Jo Ann Rounds.

The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home. Following the visitation, cremation will be under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home and burial of cremains will be at a later date at the U.S. National Cemetery in Dallas.
