James Monroe Overby's father seems to just appear out of thin air in the 1880 Census. It shows him as Bartlett or Bertwell(Burt & Bart) Overby working in a cotton mill in Thompson Alamance, N.C. His birth place was Virginia in 1858. He reappears in applying for marriage and on a death certificate. There is a Burrell Albert "B. A." Overby but that is not him. Any information on Bartlett or Bertwell(Burt & Bart)Overby would be appreciated. James Monroe and Minnie Lee Mitchem Overby lived in Chester, South Carolina and are buried there. They did not have the time to worry about writing down their family history and who their parents and grandparents were.
