Joseph W. Derks, 97, Riverside, Mo., formerly of St. Joseph, MO., passed away on Oct. 29, 1999, at a health-care facility in Riverside.
Mr. Derks was a salesman for Stowe Hardware in Kansas City for many years until retiring in 1972.
Born in Clyde, Mo., on Feb. 11, 1902, he lived in St. Joseph and Liberty, Mo., before moving to Riverside.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, in 1984; and his parents, John W. and Catherine.
Surviving: a son, Robert P., Honolulu, Hawaii; a brother, John, Dubuque, Iowa; four sisters, Katherine Fix and Theresa Sharp, both of St. Joseph, Mable Herner, Independence, Mo., and Betty Sparks, Kansas City; a nephew, and his wife, Frank and Mary Whitesell, Kansas City, who had cared for him; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Nov. 3, 1999, at Horigan Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.
Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.
