As a young patriot "Buster" Flannery was the last WW11 casualty from the town of Waterbury, Vermont. While serving as a young Seaman on the U.S.S. Harding, the ship was hit by a Kamakasi plane, on his 19th birthday. He was due to graduate in 1946, but forfeited it , and gave his life for his country.There is a cenotaph in his honor at the Holy Cross cemetery, in Duxbury, Vt.His remains were lost in the Indian Ocean.
