Lena was the daughter of David and Elizabeth Green Adams. Her sister, Hattie, was married to the Rev. Reuben Strauss. Lena and her mother had moved to Winchester, prior to 1910, and were living with the Strauss family. Miss Adams passed away from the effects of tuberculosis, complicated by influenza.

She was included, together with her parents and her brothers David, Frank, John, and James in the 1900 Maysville, Mason County census. Her father was a USCT veteran.

•Colored Column-Miss Lena Adams, clerk of the Broadway Baptist church, was buried from that church Friday, funeral by Rev. J.S. Henderson. The officers of the church acted as pallbearers. Miss Adams was a young lady whose beautiful Christian life is worthy of emulation.
