Edythe "Edie" Phillips was the daughter of Guyria "Guy" Allen Phillips and Lavina Mae "Maizie" Tolbert. She married Herbert L Hanson in Minnesota and they had 2 sons - David and Claude Hanson. They later divorced and Edythe later married August Stewart Brock on Jan 1, 1952 in Grays Harbor County, Washington.

She and Gus moved to Oregon after they married and lived in Glide, Oregon for several years. They then moved to Sitka, Alaska and lived there for a few years. Eventually they moved to San Jose, California.. She worked for Sunsweet as a bookkeeper while they lived there. They finally decided to move back to Washington State in 1968 and they lived in the Aberdeen area from then on.

During WWII, she worked as a city bus driver in Portland, Oregon. When the war ended, women doing the jobs of men during the war were let go and she had to find other work to do to support herself and her children - She wasn't shy about taking on work some considered to not be suitable for a woman. She later started her own bail bond company.

She was certainly not one to go along with what others told her she couldn't do because of her gender and she was certainly to be admired for what she accomplished in life. She was a wonderful person to know and I feel very blessed in having known her.
