Mattie Ola Fleming was born in Kentucky, the daughter of John Carter Fleming and Lurana Appling. Before 1900 the Fleming family had moved to McLennan, Texas where Mattie met and married her husband, Samuel Webster North, a Baptist minister. Samuel and Mattie had two children -- Herbert Alford North, born 1904, and Ola, born 1906, but Mattie died giving Ola birth.
Her burial site has not yet been found. Her name appears on the death certificates of both of her children.
