Frances was born at home at 1094 E. Minnehaha Ave, St. Paul, MN.
Charles and Frances were married in St. Paul at the Ramsey County Court House.
Grandma was an excellent cook and her favorite meal to cook was Italian Spaghetti. She learned to cook this from her Italian neighbor Darios . She said she should have been cooking Yorkshire pudding ! She also made the "best pies", according to her daughter -in - law Jackie.
The only job she ever had, was when she was 16 years old, she sewed bands inside men't hats . She received a $5.00 gold piece and she turned it over to her mother. She did this until she got married to Charles Burlingame in 1917.
She was a "Soap Opera" fan and loved " As The World Turns". She also loved to dance and go to the movies. She said the had one of the first 5 TV sets in their neighborhood. They won the TV in 1948 at a contest at the " Wold Chamberlain Airport .
Frances never drove either. She said she tried to drive "one time" and hit the front of the garage and that was the end of it.
She also said that when she was little, she was selected to be bounced on a carpet on the "St. Paul Winter Carnival Blanket".
Grandma loved to make doll cloths for her grandchildren out of leftover material that she had. She also loved crocheting, embroidering. She would make doilies, crosses, pin cushions and afghans.
Her pet peeves: be clean in the kitchen. Don't lick your fingers. She was a rule follower. She did not complain.
She said the took three trips in her life: one trip to the West Coast, one trip to the Dakotas and one to Los Angeles.
She loved to play cards and played a great game of 500. She said she was a "crafty" player.
She led a very simple life. On her 80th birthday, her children gave her a silver branced tree with $40.00 hanging on it. She said " I deserve this" !
Grandma was a very happy and feisty person. Her son Wayne remembers being at a party with her, and, she turned to him and said " Yippee, I'm happy with life " !!
She was also a very private person and family oriented. She was baptized Episcopalian in her home at 1094 E. Minnehaha , St. Paul, Mn. She was baptized by the Pastor of St. Peters Episcopal Church in East St. Paul.
Grandma always had a "realistic view" of life. When she knew she was nearing the end of her life she said "I know I am sick and I will just have to face up to it".
