Obituary

MISS MARY L. MONTFORT.

In the death of this inestimable woman, the community has lost a useful Christian character. She was born in Onslow County in the year 1845, September 28th, and was very nearly approached 69 years of age.

The oldest daughter of Col. E. W. and Louisa Montfort, she died as she had lived, a consistent Christian, never forgetting the example and precept that were hers in childhood.

A member of Hopewell M. E. church, Onslow circuit, it was ever her pleasure to work for and attend upon its ordiances and her pride to see its growth and its usefulness enlarge.

Since the death of her father and mother some 35 years ago, she has lived with her sister, Mrs. Cyrus Foscue, near Maysville, Jones County. A woman of large intelligence, just and kind of heart, she was loved by all who knew her.

About a year before her death she was stricken with paralysis and bore for affliction to the end without a murmur and when the race was ended she fell asleep, as a little babe, to wake no more on this earth.

Aunt Mamie has gone to reap that reward which we know awaits her up yonder where mother and father are.

A NEPHEW.
