Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock for Dr. A.A. Weddle, Somerset physician, who died last night following a short illness. He was 80 years old.

Dr. Weddle first became ill while in Florida with Mrs. Weddle and his cousin, Dr. Brent Weddle. He underwent surgery last Monday at Somerset City Hospital after returning to the city.

A graduate of the Louisville Hospital College of Medicine - now the University of Louisville Medical School - in 1908, his practice covered over a half century in Central and Southeastern Kentucky during which he delivered more than 7,000 babies.

Born in Pulaski County July 26, 1879, the son of John M. and Elvira Brown Weddle. Dr. Weddle began practicing at Mintonville. He later practiced in McCreary, Letcher, Perry, and Lincoln Counties and returned to Somerset in 1944.

He was a beloved and highly respected member of the community, a member of the First Baptist Church, Knights Templar, and Shrine, Oleika Temple, and of the various medical professional organizations.

Always active in community affairs, he served as mayor of Hustonville, and had served several terms on Somerset City Council. His record there was one of support of those things that he considered beneficial to the community as a whole.

Survivors include his wife, Mollie Tilford Weddle; four sons, Edwin Weddle, Lexington, Carl Weddle, Nashville, Tenn., Paul Weddle, Frankfort, and John Weddle, Somerset; one sister, Mrs. Mollie Adams, Science Hill; one brother, Andrew Weddle, Devalls Bluff, Ark.; one grandson, Karl G. Weddle; two granddaughters, Page Weddle, Nashville and Katherine Weddle, Frankfort; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The body is at Pulaski Funeral Home where it will remain until the funeral Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Somerset City Cemetery.

Obituary for his wife, Mollie (Tilford) Weddle:

Mrs. Mollie Tilford Weddle, 90, died Wednesday, December 24, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home after an illness of several months. She was a resident of North Richardson Drive.

Born Dec. 27, 1889 at Liberty, she was the daughter of William G. and Ida Brown Tilford. She and Dr. Weddle married June 15, 1910 at Eubank at the home of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Tilford.

She and Dr. Weddle moved to Somerset in 1944 from Perry County.

A member of the First Baptist Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher for the ladies class and was active in all church activities for many years.

She was a member of the medical auxiliary, the Literary Club, and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors are three sons, Carl Weddle, Hendersonville, Tenn., James E. and John Weddle, both of Lexington; a brother, Beryl Tilford, Hamilton, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Mitchell, Mt. Healthy, Ohio; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, Paul Weddle, preceded her in death.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of the Somerset Undertaking Company with the Rev. Eldred Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Somerset Undertaking Company.
