Son of William Planter Garner and Sarah Ann "Sally" Reiger.

He married Sarah Curry on 27 Apr 1837 in Maury County Tennessee.

William L Garner and his first wife Sarah came to Tennessee Valley Texas from Maury County Tennessee in the mid 1850's with their children Harriet, Scott, William, James Knox and Samuel. W.L. Garner traded and raced horses in the area. Their homestead was in a grove of post oak trees east of the later Aaron Talley place and south of the road that ran straight toward the Leon River bridge.
