Bertie grew up in Hamlin, and graduated from Hamlin High School.
She married J.W. Perryman, and the couple moved to Houston, where she lived until J.W. passed away in 1959.
Bertie returned to Hamlin, and in October of 1962, she married Cal Sewell.
An excellent cook, Bertie also took part in the “Buffalo Gals” line dancing group.
Bertie loved to help others, especially those in need.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamlin.
She is preceded in death by two husbands, J.W. Perryman and Cal Sewell; her parents, A.B. and Ruth Maynard; a step-son, Tommy Sewell; a step-daughter-in-law, Carol Sewell; a step-grandson, Calvin Sewell; two sisters, Margie Carriker and Shirley Dunlap; and two brothers, Roy Lee Maynard and William “Son” Maynard.
Bertie is survived by her daughter, Sue Willis of Hamlin; her step-granddaughter, Shelly Barnes, of Spring; five step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great nephews.
