Willie Everett Browning was born in Lewis County, Kentucky on February 24, 1944 to the late Frank Loyd and Mildred Christine O’Cull Browning. He leaves behind his wife of forty years, Carolyn, son, Robby (Jamie) Browning, step-son, Mike (Shawn) Wright, four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Claira Browning, Andrew and Anna Wright, one great grandchild, Macy Wright, and one sister, Lois. He was preceded in death by step-son, Gregory Wright, brother, Raymond Browning, and sister, Maxine Carroll.

He was a dedicated worker who enjoyed repairing vehicles, working outside, and completing home improvements. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, visiting his relatives, and attending family gatherings. Willie had a special pet named Miss Kitty. Being an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, he enjoyed calling different family members to talk about the game. He was also a staunch Republican who loved his country, and liked discussing politics. Willie graduated from Tollesboro High School, Tollesboro, Kentucky in 1962, and from Eastern Kentucky University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography and geology. While serving in the Vietnam Conflict after college graduation, he was severely injured, requiring several months recovering.

Willie retired from Roadway with over one million miles accident free. He loved checking in while on his long treks across the country with family and friends to pass away the time.

Willie’s earthly body was cremated, and laid to rest on July 30, 2014 in a beautiful military service at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. A memorial service and celebration of life carry-in dinner was held on Aug. 9, 2014 for family and friends who could not travel to the Tennessee services at the Tollesboro Christian Church where he was a member for many years. Special family friend, former Tollesboro Christian Church minister, Chuck Perry, officiated.

Whether he was a father, brother, uncle or cousin, Willie was loved by all who were blessed with the opportunity to spend time with him. It was entertaining listening to Willie and his siblings tell stories from their childhood. They laughed and laughed as they sat around the table recalling how each remembered the tale. Willie will be missed for his kindness, gentle spirit, concern for others and most of all his love of family and friends. When saying goodbye, he never failed to tell whichever family member he was talking to that he loved them, and then he would ask to tell the rest of the family that Uncle Willie loved them too. We love you Uncle Willie, and will miss you until the end of time.
