Eli was placed in a paupers cottage at 7 years old along with his brother Henry (8 years old) in Pontypridd Glamorgan (Civil Parish-Liantwit Fadre) Wales after his mother died while giving birth to his brother David Alfred Addis who also died at birth. His mother was 41 years old. He was sent to Quebec City as a 15 year old British Home Child by the Waifs & Strays aboard the Virginian which left England on April 30th 1909. He was placed in the Gibb Home on Bowen Street in Sherbrooke Quebec on May 8th, 1909 prior to being placed on a farm to work. His brother Henry remained in Wales and married Clara Bishop. Clara died at 27 years old while giving birth. Henry & Clara had 4 children. The children all remained in Wales to live. The maiden name of his wife on the grave stone should read Dorothy Frances Allanson (not Allison)
