Ralph W. Timpe, 76, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1401 Curtis Creek Rd., died at 4:50 p.m. Friday (April 7, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.
Born Feb. 3, 1930, in Quincy, Ralph was a son of Walter R. Timpe and Helen F. Meckes Timpe Hessing. He married Elizabeth B. Walton Feb. 19, 1955, in St. Francis Catholic Church. She survives.
Mr. Timpe attended St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Moose. He loved to build and fly model airplanes. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing softball, water skiing and fishing. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a staff sergeant.
Ralph was a route driver for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Quincy for more than 45 years, retiring in 1992.
Surviving is a daughter, Janice E. Yde and her husband, Mark, of Downers Grove; two sons, Lawrence "Larry" Timpe and his wife, Sandra, of Macon, Mo., and Jeffery E. Timpe and his wife, Sue, of Palm Dale, Calif.; five grandchildren, Janelle E. Claypoole and her husband, David, of Macon, Tyler Timpe and Jonathan Timpe, both of Palm Dale and Trevor M. Yde and Julian Yde, both of Downers Grove; a great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Jo Claypoole of Macon, and a brother, Paul E. Timpe of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Frank Hessing.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church by the Rev. Richard Jestke and the Rev. Bruce Willard. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund or to the Parkinson's Foundation.
