HAMLIN — Dorothy Herring Townley, 80, died Saturday, February 11, 2006. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2006, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Donny Harbers officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams Funeral Home.

Born December 12, 1925, in Tulia, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Marcus Eugene and Effie (Graham) Herring. She attended school in the Hitson Community in Fisher County and graduated from Hamlin High School. Dorothy married Jack Townley May 6, 1944, in Los Angeles, CA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, for over 50 years, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, and attended the Pastor's Sunday School Class. Dorothy was a Cub Scout and Blue Bird Sponsor, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a homemaker. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling the states, family gatherings and her Boston Terriers.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Jack Townley of Hamlin; one son, Jack Townley, Jr. (and wife, Rebecca) of Tyler; one daughter, Sharon Townley of Abilene; three grandchildren, Marcus Townley of Houston, David and Anna Townley of Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Ashton Townley and their mother, Shannon Townley; one brother, Charles Herring of Levelland; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family request memorials be made to the Hamlin Memorial Hospital, Hamlin First Baptist Church, or Hendrick Hospice Care.
