Graduated from Marshall High School in 1955 and attended Panola College. He served his country in the U.S. Army as an MP. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Marshall, Thikol, and he retired from AT&T in Shreveport in 1991.

He loved to travel and enjoyed having his coffee on his patio, and fellowship with his family and friends. He was a member of Summit United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and was in the Seekers Sunday school class.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Billy F. Stevens; stepfather, Cleveland Dodd; granddaughter, Kandi Cummins; brothers-in-law, Henry Watson, Wesley Smith and Bill Whaley; and sister-in-law, Wanda Tedder.
